Hello beautiful!! I recently read an article on the Environmental Health News website about the endocrine system and endocrine disruption, and wanted to share the info with you.
Why? Because not only did it shed further light on the introduction and inundation of thousands of chemicals that are literally changing and damaging the bodies and brains of millions of people, in part by disrupting our endocrine system (aka reproductive/hormone system), but it also reinforced why I do what I do…….blogging to educate and provide safer alternatives to you!
I started this blog to provide you with information, grow awareness, provide solutions, and support you in your wellness journey. I saw this important need because, frankly, there is a lot of BS out there, not intentionally you see, but many simply don’t realize that this sort of thing is going on.
And why would they? It’s something that’s been flying under the radar for far too long.
A lot of companies which claim to be “clean”, “natural”, and “organic”, are still using chemicals which either haven’t been tested, or have been tested but are still harmful to your health.
A prime example of this is a company which I recently heard of called LUSH. Through multiple conversations I’ve had recently, I have found that even those who have an awareness are trusting companies which claim to be safe, because why wouldn’t they?
But in reality, these companies are still using harmful toxins such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, etc. Such is the case with products offered by LUSH. In spot checking their ingredients, I saw that they are using several of these endocrine system disrupting chemicals but tell their consumers that these are safe ingredients.
Odds are, this is happening because the founders of this company are just doing what they are told by their chemists, and the industry in general. But therein lies the problem. They aren’t doing the research for themselves and are taking what others tell them at face value……..at least that’s my speculation not knowing the background to the company.
But back to the article I was reading, which was actually an excerpt from a book called “SICKER FATTER POORER” by Leonardo Trasande, M.D., M.P.P.
The article talks about how all homes in the good ole US of A, regardless of urban, suburban, or rural, rich or poor, hides a harmful, and dangerous threat to the health of not just us, but our children, grandchildren, etc.
Studies have shown that environmental exposures can modify the expression of genes (without actually changing their sequence), leading to diseases and dysfunctions. Though there are likely many factors, one of the prominent groups is that of the endocrine system disruptors commonly found in our personal care and cosmetic products.
It is for these reasons that I created my “Top 10 Toxins to Eliminate from Your Personal Care Products” guide. If you haven’t picked it up already, you can do so by clicking the button below. It’s a $97 value and it’s free right now!

The article goes on to discuss how the chemicals with the strongest evidence of health effects are pesticides, flame retardants, plasticizer chemicals, and bisphenols, but we know of at least a THOUSAND more chemicals that are endocrine system disruptors, many of which are found in our every-day food, and yes, personal care products.
To quote the article:
“At first it was thought that these chemicals had to persist in the body to cause harm, like a viral or bacterial infection. Now we realize that, though the chemicals themselves are often excreted within a few days, they leave lasting effects.
And here is the scariest piece: the effects of this chemical contact can reverberate years later and even be passed on to the next generation. This is what I call the “hit-and-run” impact of these pernicious chemicals.”
In a nutshell……..we now know that these damaging chemicals are not only affecting our health but that it is being passed down to our kids.
They have been shown to have potent, long-lasting, life-altering effects on all of us, but especially babies and young children, whose organs are just developing, including:
- lower IQs
- obesity
- type 2 diabetes
- birth defects
- infertility
- endometriosis
- attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
- fibroids
- low sperm count
- testicular cancer
- heart disease
- autism, and
- breast cancer
Reading this list, I was absolutely terrified! It made me wish that I had paid attention sooner, and cared more sooner, and had taken action sooner! It made me wish that I hadn’t just brushed off the information I had been given previously.
Unfortunately, I can’t change the past, but I can change the future, not just for myself but for you too! I am here for you and I want to help wherever I can.
Now you may wonder how all of the things in the list above can really have anything in common…..but they do. It’s “a marker of endocrine system disruption directly linked to any one or a mix of thousands of chemicals that are not yet regulated by the United States and that continue to be produced and used commercially in hundreds of products.”
Although all of the chemicals that exist in our homes, food, products, and environment have not yet been studied, there is strong supportive research that links these chemicals and diseases in at least 3 systems vital for good health: reproductive functioning (aka endocrine system), metabolism, and the brain/nervous system.
I know that sounds like a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo but the gist of it is this: there is evidence to support the fact that the massive amount of chemicals used in our products, and our every-day lives, are in fact damaging our bodies and leaving residual damages for our offspring and their offspring.
In July 2018, the American Academy of Pediatrics raised concerns about synthetic chemicals which are intentionally added to or unintentionally contaminating foods. The AAP has even urged families and lawmakers to act on this huge concern!
The endocrine system is nothing to mess around with. And the fact that companies have been allowed to do so for decades without any new regulations passed is terrifying.
This is why it is SO important to take this seriously and to pay attention! Because even though some of the medical community is starting to notice, until lawmakers and the public take action nothing will change.
Companies will continue to use harmful chemicals in our food, personal care products, cosmetics, furniture, etc because that is what is profitable. They will not look for another solution until they are forced to do so.
While it might be hard to believe, there are a handful of companies that do care and do take our health seriously. If you would like my suggestion on where to turn for safer personal care and cosmetics please do not hesitate to contact me!
