Since beginning my wellness journey several years ago, I have learned a lot about the ingredients and harmful chemicals that go into our every day personal care and beauty products. Fortunately, I have been lucky enough to find high performing replacements for ALMOST every product that I use. Unfortunately, I have not found a replacement for a GOOD FRAGRANCE or safe perfume.
If you’ve been following me and have read some of my previous posts, you know the dangers that come with the word “fragrance” when used as an ingredient. But if this is the first time we are meeting, and you want to get some background as to why this ingredient is one to be avoided, check out tip #2 in this post!

So since learning about the dangers that the word “fragrance” can mask, I have absolutely shied away from using all of my favorite perfumes, hard as it may be…….and frankly I’m not one to wear perfume or body spray a lot, but I do have my favorites and enjoy using them from time to time.
So of course I would LOVE to find a good, and SAFE perfume.
Fortunately, though, I have discovered that there is at least one brand out there that is on a mission to provide safe perfumes. That brand is called PHLUR. I stumbled upon Phlur a couple of months ago.
I was impressed by their mission and the fact that you could order 3 samples of your choosing for only $18. Now, I do find it difficult to choose a scent off of the internet…….I mean, the whole point is to select something that smells nice, right? But that’s impossible to do via a computer or mobile device screen.
However, considering this company is based only online, I decided I was willing to shell out $18 for a chance at finding a perfume that was safe and I actually liked.
I started by selecting my scents. I went with Hanami, Hepcat, Moab. It didn’t take too long for the samples to arrive maybe a week at most.
The samples were nicely packaged and were the size of what you would expect a perfume sample size to be. As I tried each one, though, there was only one scent when I found to be somewhat acceptable, Hanami.
Even though I preferred Hanami to the other two, it still was a little “woodsy” or musty for my personal taste. And the other two were very woodsy smelling to me, even though they were both different scents. I have to wonder if part of the safer ingredients they use has some sort of earthy scent used as a base ingredient since all 3 seemed to have an underlying similar smell.
I debated on whether or not to get the full size of Hanami because even though it’s not my favorite of favorites when it comes to perfumes, it did have a nice subtlety to it. One thing that is really nice about Phlur is that if you select a full size safe perfume to buy after you receive your samples, they credit you the $18 that you already spent. It is important to note, though, that this is only an option for a limited time.
Ultimately, I decided not to go for the full size, but I don’t rule this company out as an option at some point since they keep coming out with new scents! Plus I love the fact that their mission is inline with mine!
