Ok, so essential oils…….odds are likely that you’ve heard of essential oils and the fact that these are often used as an alternative to medicine.
Now, I don’t know about them taking the place of medicine altogether, but I am definitely curious to see how well they work. Why? Because I have been finding that there are alternatives out there which work very well in conjunction with medicine, when it is necessary. But as I continue to research ways to improve my wellness and the wellness of my family, I stumbled across this company called Young Living.
I had never heard of Young Living prior to starting my blog. I’ve heard of Doterra quite a bit, but never Young Living. But in speaking with my massage therapist this past weekend, apparently these two companies used to be combined but split several years ago.
Also in speaking with my massage therapist and another person in direct sales, I became more interested in learning about Young Living! So I started to look into this company a little more.
As you might have guessed, they do offer essential oils, and diffusers, but they also offer products for the home such as cleaning……(which is something I may consider trying myself!) as well as some nutrition products, and personal care.
Now, when it comes to personal care, I have a brand that I absolutely love and will not veer from because I KNOW they offer safe, effective products…….this is also the company with which I work directly because of the fact that I LOVE their products and their mission.
So I hesitate to recommend any personal care and cosmetics brand other than my favorite. If you would like more information on my favorite brand for personal care and cosmetics, please contact me by clicking the button below!
But back to Young Living and essential oils. I have always been intrigued by the idea of using essential oils for aromatherapy…….for many years now. I’m not really sure where I got this notion, but it has been many, many years. Heck, even when I was in college I designed a line of clothing based around aromatherapy.
What is Aromatherapy?
Well, if you aren’t familiar with it, the basics are that you can improve your health through diffusing essential oils into the air. Young Living, specifically, claims that through their essential oils, they have introduced millions to emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness that can be truly life-changing.
Young Living also states that the use of essential oils can:
- Inspire a positive emotional state
- Enhance Your Physical Wellness
- Enhance Spiritual Awareness
- Purify Your Home
- Refine Your Beauty Routine
It is said that the most common uses are for aromatic diffusion, topical application, and dietary consumption……but be careful about the dietary consumption point. From what I’ve gathered so far, this may not be recommended in general. And personally, it doesn’t seem to be a great idea to me…….but I am not very knowledgable in this particular area.
So, to start off, I thought I’d begin with the aromatherapy route, since this has always been of interest to me. And I am very curious to see how and if it works.
I did recently learn that, for aromatherapy purposes, you typically dilute a couple of drops with water by way of a diffuser – which is kind of like a humidifier.
And, as you might have guessed, when I started researching essential oils, I discovered that, just like any product, you want to be careful which ones you select because you want to be sure that they are good quality and 100% pure. But I’m not yet ready to make a full commitment to oils so, to start out, I decided to try a brand recommended by an e-commerce store called Mighty Nest.
The brand I am going to try is called Plant Therapy because they seem to be of good quality and are reasonably priced. And since everyone in my house has been sick with a cold, I thought I’d give the Kid’s Safe Germ Destroyer a try first!
I JUST received my differs and oil in the mail. I decided to purchase two…….one for the house, and a small one for work. I figure with it being cold and flu season, now is as good of a time as any to try this particular blend!
I have also selected a variety pack of base oils such as Lavendar, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and several others……but I’m thinking this might be a good thing to add to my Christmas list. 😉 I hear peppermint, especially, is good for migraine sufferers, of which I personally am. So I can’t wait to try that out as well!
But for now, I am going to see how the germ destroyer performs and will keep you posted in another article to divulge my results. If all goes well, then I may look into investing a little more money into even higher quality (supposedly) essential oils.
Either way, I am excited to finally try out aromatherapy and see if it is worth the hype! And if it proves to be all it’s cracked up to be, then my next stop for oils may very well be Young Living.
